My rates

My basic copyediting rate is $3.50/page (with a page determined as 250 words).

If you go through one of the sites I work for, those rates are determined by those employers. But if you hire me directly, my rate is based on the Editorial Freelancers Association (a mid-range basic copyediting rate, estimating 10 pages/hour). If you hire me directly, you also get the benefit of more direct correspondence with me and the opportunity to set up a retainer or discuss special expedited work.)

The amount of time it takes to edit something is very dependent on the type of editing the client wants and the level of polish the document already has, so for more involved projects (heavy or developmental copyediting), my rate will increase to $4.50/page to account for this extra work.

If you are unsure what level of editing you would like and need to determine what the total project fee will be, I am happy to do a free sample edit. This sample edit also allows clients to let me know whether I'm taking the editorial approach they'd like, and to adjust my style (and rate) accordingly.

After the free sample edit, I will send your invoice up front (with a pay-by date determined based on the project deadline). If you want an accelerated turnaround, or are interested in setting up a retainer, we can discuss those special rates after the sample edit.

REFUND POLICY:
If you choose to cancel the job before any paid work is done (after the sample edit and preliminary correspondences), you will not be charged. If you choose to cancel a job after work has begun, you will still be charged for the work completed to that point.
