An introduction

I am not a writer. I am an editor.

That said, I've tried my hand at a few blogs (links buried below), and figured it couldn't hurt to start my own editing blog. My little "about me" that gives you some of my credentials as a professional editor, but I've decided to make my first post a more expansive version of that "about me." Because you probably want some more details on who I am and how I work. Right?

So, here's my basic history: I've been editing since before college, but it was at Scripps College that I honed my skills as a copy editor for our campus newspaper. After getting an Honors BA in English (cum laude!), I went on to get a publishing certificate from the University of Denver. Then I enrolled in San Jose State University's iSchool program to get my MLIS. As I've gained experience as a freelance copyeditor I've also worked on gaining clients and expanding my freelance work into more of a career. I edit everything--from informal email correspondences to full-length book manuscripts--and am an efficient and thorough worker, someone who takes pride in being sympathetic to authors as well as readers.

One of my employers: EditorWorld (I edit under the handle "grammargoddess.")

One of my freelancing profiles (which features some of my writing): Freelanced

Some quotes from references:

"She's worked on multiple pieces for me, from one page assignments to a lengthy 50 page thesis on a multitude of topics, and she always delivers a perfect final copy well in advance of the deadline."
-a repeat client

"Tori is an ideal copyeditor--always diligent, responsible, and responsive in directing attention to revisions. She has a formidable precision and daunting mind that simply does not settle for mediocrity. [...] Tori is a committed editor, a lover of literature, and a practical visionary--the kind of person I am pleased to recommend to any future client."
-a freelanced.com client

"...in addition to making the necessary corrections in grammar, punctuation, and word usage she explains why she made these changes so that I don't repeat the same mistake again."
-an editorworld.com client

"She directly and professionally addressed the revisions, large and small, that substantially improved my drafts."
-an aspiring children's author

"I feel lucky to have found her--her editing skills are amazing both for copywriting and story development."
-an author whose spiritual memoir was under consideration with a New York publisher in 2013

"If you are looking for an editor who will help improve your writing without taking away your voice, I highly recommend Tori."
-a fellow editor

"THANK YOU, you have been an amazing editor!"
-a repeat client on editorworld.com (after finishing up her personal statement for law school)

Some of those references are from my LinkedIn profile. Feel free to check out my online resume. It's very thorough!

I have a less professional side too, but it's still pretty fixated on reading and editing. (The social media I update most frequently is Goodreads.)
